What is bailable offence?

As per Section 2(a) of The Code of Criminal Procedure an offence is bailable if it shown as bailable in the first schedule of the Cr.P.C or any other law for the time being in force.

Therefore, no precise definition has been laid down under the Act, rather a list of offences have been given under Schedule-I, indicating a particular offence as bailable or non-bailable. In other words Section 2(a) is not a defining provision rather it is an identifying provision.
